Last year I was running 3x a week, 5 miles a shot at about a 8:45 training pace. It took its toll on my body and my leg training so this year I decided to walk 3 miles 3x a week. Yesterday for some dumb reason I went to the track and did ¼ intervals for 3.25 miles; walk and jog. Got damn if I couldn't get my breath, and this morning my freakin’ hips are killing me!

I never realized how quickly things can be lost. A year ago I was running a 10k race in 51 min. now it hurts to even think about it.

You lose cardio fitness the fastest. Two weeks your VO2 max declines quite a bit. My solution...stop running lol.

Just do some sprints and sled work you buff MOFO.

Trust me, if you have a respectable squat and or dead, it will put it in the shitter! You'll hear all kinds of BS from guys running 10K and 1/2's that yes you can do both. Not to be a jackass but they are singling 300 in the squat. I said it before, you can't serve two masters.

X2. Agreed. The converse is also true; you can gain cardio fitness just as fast as you lose it lol

Takes 3 weeks away to start losing your endurance and stamina.

Hard to maintain and hard to regain.

Snake.....you lost me at Running.......because thats cardio. Alpha and cardio dont mix. But in all seriousness, my wife had me running up to about 3 miles 2 years ago and it took me awhile to get that endurance, but now I havent for 2 years I would dread doing it again.....

Snake,
I'm in the same boat you are. @6 weeks ago, I was at a peak, about as strong as I've ever been, and looking good if I do say so myself. Then I got sick (chronic GI issues, a flare up), hurt my shoulder, and moved 6500 feet higher in elevation. Basically life kicked my ass physically. Exactly as you said, 'Where did it go'. It is amazing how quickly it can fade. Hopefully reconditioning and strength can come back in an equal amount of time. We need to be patient, and consistent, and it will get there.

It has been said, the character of a man isn't that he doesn't get knocked down. Character is that he gets back up.
