Fwiw, Forbes came out with their annual highest-paid-athletes list ....... Messi is #1 for 2019. These figures always include both salary from the sport and endorsements. No matter how high you think some MLB, NFL or NBA athletes are, it's the sports with more international interest that usually take the top spots, sports that can include Americans but that draw from a larger fan base, and thus a larger sponsor base as well. Soccer, tennis, motor sports and golf usually produce most of the top 10 each year, with a few like Lebron James barely making it. My favorite sport, Boxing, barely gets noticed, cause those guys don't get the endorsements other athletes do. The ultimate anomaly is Floyd Fuuking Mayweather, NOT my favorite, and not considered the GOAT by serious fans and writers no matter what HE says. Recent years saw Forbes include his earnings for the exhibitions with 2 MMA stars that were staged according to boxing-only rules alongside his true earnings from boxing ..... he IS the GOAT on self-promotion and bilking the public.
