So this was just Florida

No, arrests have been made in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. This article represents a single arrest in an ongoing investigation all revolving around James Sevier.

Forfeiture can be a real bitch. I know from personal experience that in FL LE can charge you with a felony one day and seize your boat, drop all charges the next day but still keep your property under civil forfeiture. It took me three years and thousands of dollars to recover my boat over what LE eventually admitted was an improper stop. There was never any contraband or illegal activity. They were actively trying to generate funds through fines for violating newly created ordinances and seizures to pay for a new patrol boat and it's operation. Corrupt, unintelligent, and poorly trained LE, not surprised.
