An Iowa bodybuilder who served as a domestic distributor for an international steroid ring has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose.
The 47-year-old Ronald J. Sales was sentenced to 20 months in prison and Judge Ambrose told him it was time “to put this in your past and move forward.”

Mr. Sales was part of a ring that included Ukrainians identified as Oleksandr “Musclebear” Skochyk and Yeveniy Suray, who have also been indicted, according to information presented at past hearings. They distributed tens of thousands of doses of Chinese-made steroids, including some to Western Pennsylvania buyers.
“This was a major operation, an international ring,” said Judge Ambrose.
Mr. Sales will forfeit $21,183 that prosecutors said he gained through crime, and will be under federal supervision for three years after release.
