    I beat my wife

No I don't mean physical abuse

But I actually won a disagreement with her!!!! And this means after YEARS I am finally getting a ****ing dog!!!!

It's a chocolate lab rescue pup. They named him Paul but I am gonna license him as Sir Munchem Von Snatchen.

    Point is I WON!!!!

Problem though is she wants her own dog now. She likes those stupid little terriers that are really just cats. I am gonna talk her into a bulldog instead. His name will be Winston after Churchill...

Ideally I wanted an American bulldog named Patton. A rottweiler named Rommel. And a Mastiff named Churchill.

    Can't win em all though.

Haha that's great. My old neighbor had a rot named rammel. Never knew why until I was like 20.

Dude get an English bulldog. I have one and they are fukking awesome. Or a French bulldog. That's what I'm getting next.

Congrats on the new addition! Dog People are Good People, IME. Much respect for taking a rescue dog as well!

We rescued a deaf pittie a couple-three years back and she's the other woman in my life. Sleeps on me bed, goes to sleep when I do, hugs me leg under the covers if I let her.
Most affectionate dog I've ever owned.

Bully breeds are amazing dogs when handled responsibly.

I love Bulldogs, well I love all dogs....but, Bulldogs have lots of health problems and a fairly short lifespan. Bulldogs often develop hip problems very early. Everyone I know who has a Bulldog has spent thousands and thousands on vet bills(usually hip dysplasia) and they usually only make 8 or 9. Great dogs, but be prepared to spend money to keep them healthy.

Dogs are truly a family member for most.
    Good deal!

    But you are wrong...

You think you won a fight, somehow, somewhere this will be parlayed to her advantage....but you know that.

Dude, congrats man! Labs are the best! We are looking to get a chocolate too coming up... (It will be a hunting dog but also a family pet). They are extremely loyal and obedient. Just make sure you hide all your shoes, leather bags, belts, and anything else you dont want chewed to shreds as they move through their teething puppy a-hole stage....

Yeah, labs do have hip problems. Most large breeds of dogs do. But Bulldogs seem to be the worst I've seen personally. We actually fostered an American Bulldog a couple years ago. He was only 3 and his hips were so bad he couldn't do stairs. I loved that dog though. He was so cool, but I felt so bad for him, he even had troubles just standing up after lying down. Fortunately, an awesome family took him and is currently spoiling him rotten. My wife and I check in with them from time to time. They got hip surgery done for him and he's doing much better. Awesome, awesome dog...as friendly and loving as they come

They (labs) are known for having or carrying hip-displacia (sp?)... But you can have them tested to know. But, just because they carry the gene, doesnt mean they will actually get it. My father-in-law got a $5k yellow lab that had another $5k worth of training, for free because they found out she carried the gene... But, she is 12 now, still hunting, and happy as can be doing what she loves... No issues. The breeder just wasnt allowed to sell her anymore due to her being a carrier... Guess we lucked out.

That's awesome POB. I would definitely get her to agree to an English bulldog or French bulldog for hers. My next dog would be one of them. I have two now, one is a 90lb pit, and the other one I rescued dying in the desert. We got a DNA test on him and he is part staffordshire terrier, part American bulldog, part lab. Amazing dog we named him Watson. As soon as I saw him he ran straight over to me and jumped right in my car. The pads on his feet were burned off. I don't have kids but my dogs are my children for sure.

That's great man, dogs are awesome. I have two Frenchie/pug mixes and I agree with the guys. French bulldogs are excellent dogs. Not the brightest but you will never be in a bad mood around them. Enjoy your lab, they're wonderful companions

This wasn't the thread I was expecting! I thought I'd see a picture or two of GK but alas!

That's really cool you're getting a rescue dog!
It's good to be able to compromise too!

My dog's name is Ares, after the God of War. Was going to get another and name it Mars.

Then of course there would have to be a bulldog named Chesty...
