Some of you know a bit of my background. Others don't, so I'll be brief.
I was raised by my dad. He was heavy into powerlifting, strongman and did a few highland games comps to wear the kilt . He competed in the world police and fire games and placed nationally. It was unusual for men to be raising their kids back in the 80's and I went everywhere with him. My dad was my lifting coach in high school and I had a seperate coach for swimming. Got a full ride to college for swimming and won my states PL'ing comp when I was 17. So there's the background on me.
Fast forward to now. My dad is in his mid 60's and still lifts, although does not compete. He is opening an open to the public gym in Oct and build out starts soon. We've been looking at equipment and I got all weepy eyed wondering where the good ole days of gym equipment had gone.
I was taught to lift in a gym with no cardio equipment, duct tape holding the pads together and some of the equipment still had the old fashioned chains. Concrete floors, chalk everywhere and no air conditioning. I didn't grow up in MT, but I grew up in the south and it was hot and humid!!!! The owner frowned upon headphones because he believed that you needed to listen to your spotter, not the music in your head. So now i'm looking at cardio equipment with built in tv's, machines with built in computers, and every bell and whistle known to man.
I'm exasperated by everything that makes excersice convenient and froo-froo and wondering what happened to the good ole' days of lifting.
Sorry all if this is long, just feeling old and nostalgic today.
