George was a famous pro wrestler with a greco-roman background. He is widely considered to be the best of his era (early 1900s) and certainly dominated Europe.
Then he came to America and met Frank Gotch (Google him, sexy ****er) who was a catch wrestler. Frank beat him comfortably back to back in 2 huge pro wrestling matches in 1908 & 1911, which basically killed the rep of European greco-roman guys in America.

On a sidenote, the 1911 rematch set the all time attendance & gate record. 28,757 fans in Chicago for $87,053 - big money in those days.
