UFC 241: Pettis vs Diaz - Who Ya' Got?

Yea, yea...it's the co-main, but lets be honest: DC vs Stipe isn't going to last 5 rounds and given that Miocic lost convincingly and hasn't fought since I'm not thinking it's likely we'll get a different outcome tonight. The longer the fight goes on, the more likely DC will wear Stipe down and eventually catch his chin or just sweep him on the cards. Thinking as well that *IF* it ends up being a close one, the UFC has far more to gain by giving the decision to DC so as to set up a trilogy with Jon Jones before DC retires.

So Diaz vs Pettis presents a more interesting discussion.

Pettis says 'Showtime' is back after thrashing Wonderboy, while the Stockton Slap seems like he never left in spite of having not stepped into the Octagon since losing his rematch to Conor McGregor back in 2016. Nick is notorious (pun intended) for being ready to fight on a moment's notice (his win over Conor came on just 2 weeks notice) and this time out he's had a full camp to prepare.

My heart goes to the thai boxer in match-ups such as these, and Pettis as a Duke Roufus prodigy has all the tools you would expect.

That said, the Diaz Bros are always an interesting match-up, and its tough to pull against Nick in any situation given his 'Zero Fooks Given' style and the mental warfare he's famous for engaging in the cage. This combined with his insane cardio and, well, love him or hate him, he's damn fun to watch.

    Who ya' got?

Nick/Nate what’s the difference. Pettis by a$$ whippin. Gonna be a good fight.

In reference to DC/Stipe, I agree with everything you said. I’m puzzled by this though, I recently half heartedly watched the Embedded (I think) of these twos last match. In it, Stipe states his camp was good and his weight cut is over??? I’m having trouble understanding why the 240-250ish reigning Champ at the time would be cutting weight? Since the limit is 265? Unless he got out of shape? Don’t hold me to that but I’m pretty sure that’s what I heard him say. I just thought it was an odd thing to do with his body type and skill set.

Good eye, BGH. Stipe came in 12 lbs lighter this time around even (official weight 230.5 for this fight, 242 the 1st time they met) and to your point - even before the 1st match he' been cutting. Unless he's thinking the cut will help his cardio, I don't understand it either. FWIW, if I were game planning with Stipe against DC, I'd not try to match his gas tank & instead focus on the quick kill. 4 of Stipe's last 5 wins have been 1st round KOs / TKOs - so we should play to his strengths and not try to out-last an Olympic wrestler. Use his boxing, work behind his jab, set up the 2, keep DC at distance plan to go HAM for 3 rounds. If it lasts beyond that, too likely DC will eventually get the clinch or the takedown and it's game over.

    Yeah. Puzzling fo sho.

DC is cagey with both striking and wrestling. In wrestling, He will make guys think they are having success leaning on him then he fools them into clinching with him. Big mistake unless you’re Bones Jones

Nate can be unpredictable which makes him difficult to bet against.....He needed a win after the long absence....Many of the underdogs won last nite....
