Hey guys name's Anthony. I'm 28 215lbs and just started lifting a month ago. In one month IV made some good progress. I couldn't do pushups or pull ups now I'm doing 20-40 pushups and 5-8 pull ups. Went from dumbbell pressing 25lbs to 65lbs preacher curls up to 90lbs. But my bench deadlift and squat are at 135 unfortunately. Still working on those. I do workout alone so I don't have a spotter which might help me but its hard to depend on someone to show up everyday. Figured I'd say hello before posting anywhere else.

Welcome,
The only one you can count on is yourself, its nice to have another person to lift with at times. But I know I can only depend on myself to show up and put in the work.
Keep lifting and keep learning, it can help with more aspects in your life than just physical health.

20-40 pushups at 225 bodyweight, but you're only benching 135?

Something seems off.

Not doubting you, but something isn't right.

I'm guessing it's a psychological barrier.

In any case, welcome aboard, bud!

well i think i can possibly do more. But i have a strength difference in my arms im trying to fix with pushups. 135 I Can put up like 7-10 times. so its not exactly my max. But i am afraid to try higher right now without a spotter. I dont wanna drop the weight on top of me. i think i could potentially do 185-200 as a max. maybe more idk yet. im really inexperienced in this whole area so im learning slowly as i go.

If you can do 135# for 7-10 reps, next time use 140#. Go until you think that you only have 1-2 more left before you fail, that way you have nothing to worry about. Keep adding 5 pounds every week. You'll be fine.

well there is a "smith" machine. i think thats what its called. But everyone says to not use it and just to use the regular bench.

Do what works for you, try it out, i personally enjoy the smith machine every now and then.

Welcome to the UG! Smith machine is great for when you don’t have a spotter. My bench greatly improved when I started to focus on my lats and back too. Sounds strange but that’s how I felt. Keep inching the weight up as others have said. You can probably bench 185lbs for 3-5 right now.
