Roughly 30 calories of dark chocolate (70% or higher cacao) can improve blood pressure by 3-5 points (systolic hypertension/diastolic prehypertension). Not crazy in of itself but considering it's only 30 cal...interesting. Interesting because of course it wouldnt be just supplementing with chocolate. Theres still potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamin d and quite a few others.

"Our meta-analysis of 15 trial arms suggests that dark chocolate and flavanol-rich cocoa products are superior to placebo in reducing systolic hypertension and diastolic prehypertension. However, flavanol-rich cocoa products did not significantly reduce mean blood pressure below 140 mmHg systolic or 80 mmHg diastolic. Additional trials of hypertensive populations are needed to elucidate whether local dietary habits or genetic factors influence the blood pressure-lowering effect of cocoa."

Key word here is hypertension and pre hypertension. That doesnt mean to go out and buy dark chocolate...studies are still incomplete. I just thought it was interesting the correlation between flavonoids and blood pressure.

I like adding the hersheys cocoa powder into my oatmeal each day, nice way to get those health benefits as well as making my egg white oatmeal taste nicer

I tried all sorts of natural shit when my blood pressure recently skyrocketed. Basically nothing made any impact. You know what works real good though? Handfuls of blood pressure meds. :)

I was almost excited that I could have an excuse to eat chocolate but then I read that it was dark chocolate and my hopes were shattered.

I'm just not a fan of it.

I'll wait until they find that regular milk chocolate has some kind of benefits and then I'm all over it. Until then, I'm going to eat it but just not tell anybody about it lol

I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but my gut tells me this is no different than when people tried pulling off the "glass of wine" is good for you because of resveratrol, ya, resveratrol is awesome, but to get any amount in that would ever even remotely do anything (from wine) you'd have to drink 5 gallons of it.

Same, my friend. Still hoping for the day that science discovers that milk and white chocolate are the unsung cure for something. Hell, it could be scurvy for all I care - just let me enjoy my deliciously sweet yum-yums in peace!
