Not criticizing the work ethic or the weight used or anything else, but ... don't understand why the bands are anchored above the weight rather than below it?

The machine was designed with too steep of an angle, and they would risk seriously injuring their knees at the bottom. So, they put the bands up top to slightly lighten the load at the bottom.

Got it ... thanks. We are stronger at the top of a Squat than at any lower point, so I figured the bands "should" be the other way to make that part of each rep more difficult, but I think like ol' Arthur "Nautilus" Jones too much sometimes. Was surprised to see the guy didn't wrap his knees too ... hardcore!

Just my opinion, but i would think if it weren't for the design flaw, it would have been staight weight, or added resistence from the bands as you're suggesting.

Heavier the top and lighter at the bottom its powerlifting stuff.

You can unrack and lockout heavier weight but at the same time get rebound help at the bottom

From bottom up is against and top up is reverse

Same can be done with chains

That's Dave Tate coaching the guy and Dave's gym he built after leaving Westside Barbell

Lol had to edit my post like 3 times!

Been a while but the theory is, going against bands to pull you down at the bottom or reverse to help lift the weight at the bottom
