I've taken NAC for quite a while and I feel it helped me stabilize my mood and possibly energy levels as well.
However sometimes it irritated my stomach really badly, once culminating in a gastritis I had to fight for weeks/months.
So for me NAC is a no-go for me now.
I found it quite hard to find a good substitute, I am taking big doses of glycine to help create glutathione, but it seems cysteine is just important.
I didn't really find any information on whether L-Cysteine is a good alternative, is it even absorbed properly? Does it have the same gastrointernal side-effects as NAC? Does it have the same neurological benefits?
I also experimented with pure glutathione which seemed to have some effect, but it's very short-lived so quite impractical to use. Long lived forms of glutathione like S-acetyl-glutathione are very expensive...
