Amazingly, that is not the first time I've read that article.

When that article was written, you have to understand a few things:

+single income households was fairly common, and that means the woman didn't have to go to work.
+the women's lib movement hadn't occurred yet
+"leave it to beaver" was an original series at the time
+men were dicks, and women didn't know any better!
