    whey + casein

OK, I have my regular whey protein that I supplement with. My main source of nutrition is just stuffing my face with the right foods. That being said, whether I'm at home or on Tue rig I tend to work out in the evenings and take my shake within 15 minutes of completing my workout. I was thinking of adding a casein to the regimen. I was just wanting to get y`alls opinions on adding the casein since I have never used it before.

I'm not reall sure what the major Diff are between the two other than casiene is a slower to absorb the regular whey therefor it was recommended to be taken in the evening or at bedtime. My son has been on it for several month now and he says he really notices no diff from the whey. That's my 2cents

Although I agree athletes trying to gain muscle mass require more protein than sedentary people..........the amount of protein the bodybuilding industry pushes is ridiculous.

It is said(I don't believe it) whey can processed into a usable from by the body in as little as 1.5hrs. Proteins in fact can takes days to be broken down and profiled into usable amino acid profiles.

    Re: whey + casein

As the Bros mentioned, whey for quick absorption (post workout), casein for slow absorption (before bed).

I personally have not noticed much difference (eg. taking a whey shake after an evening workout).

An alternative: add some cottage cheese to your post-workout whey shake.

    Peace.

I do the same. Whey isolate post workout and casein before bed. I actually had to take a three hour class on the topic. Every once and a while I'm forced to workout at night say 9 or 10. Then after I'll do a scoop of each. Whey will feed your muscles right away from training and casein will feed them for up to 8 hrs while you sleep so you don't become catabolic.

Whey in the day- pre and post work out between meals if needed.
A scoop of casein mixed in a bowl with 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup cottage cheese at bedtime......

    Re: whey + casein

Man i always mix these anytime i take them... Pre post before bed... Doesnt matter because pre and post, ull get quick acting proteins and bcaa's as well as with the casein u will get those bcaas that take a while and stiff fill up those muskles thru out the day... And thats the way i look at it...

If ur constantly destroying those muskles they constantly need to repair.... I notice that doms subsides quicker whith casein but thats just me...

Like i said use both thru out the day... I believe its worth it

    Re: whey + casein

So i got some of the ON casein and have been taking it the last few days and have noticed a difference. Recovery does seem a lot better. Taking it before bed, especially after heavy lift days, i don't have the soreness i was feeling before.
