Share your experience, tips for doing this while weight training, cool stories, funny shit. Vids. What belt level you went up to.

I'm just trying to learn. I'm a white belt. It's a side gig that comes second to my weight training. It's way tougher than I thought it would be physically so far.

Also the conditioning is completely different from what I do for cardio and weights. I'm gassed after a few rolls, sweating my ass off and out of breath. I thought I was in good shape too. Nope.

My fucking joints are killing me too. Fuck.

To what extent do you think it's possible to balance the two disciplines?
I know we have a few guys here that do or have done it @Joliver comes to mind, forgot who else, we had one guy from Canada.

So far it's been tough for me to balance because I'm getting pretty beat up doing it. It puts a lot of stress on my joints I've noticed.

I'm not a roller , mostly I studied Monkey style , drunken and wooden.

While both involve feints and ground work it is not the same. For me back then keeping my air was the hardest thing , took a couple of months before I started to lose that can't get air asthma attack feeling.

One thing I did notice physically , the larger guys had to work harder, they were heavier , blocky , didn't have proper mobility.

So all that mass and muscle didn't really do them much good against anyone with better skills.

Funny story hmm ... blew my own soleus (muscle in the calf) one night. Showing off how flexible I was getting haahahaha. Pulled my left foot up and put it on my right shoulder ... pop instant sweating , shaking , good times.

I stopped weight training when I decided to commit full time to BJJ. I do keep regular on body weight type exercises push-ups , pull ups core work type stuff . I’ve had my brown belt for a couple months now .
Congrats man that's a huge achievement.

I can't quit lifting I'll shrivel up into my former self in no time. I'm just gonna have to stay a hobbyist with bjj I guess. I'll try to become a decent white belt for now.

Another thing I've been noticing now that I'm learning more about it, is that the mma bjj stuff seems to be really basic. You only see the real blackbelt shit in bjj tourneys, which I find very boring to watch sometimes.

My trainer says "that's because in mma your getting punched in the face while doing bjj." lol

A lot of those guys that do MMA are well rounded in multiple skills they have a good ground game and are well rounded in striking as well both are used to dominate .

BJJ tournaments you will see more of that chess game the techniques used to get that tap .
