NBA player BANNED FOR LIFE!

Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter's NBA career came to an abrupt end on Wednesday. The 24-year-old was banned for life for breaking gaming rules, NBC News reports. In a news release, the league said an investigation found that Porter "violated league rules by disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his own participation in one or more games for betting purposes, and betting on NBA games." The league said that before a March 20 game, Porter "disclosed confidential information about his own health status to an individual he knew to be an NBA bettor."

Porter took himself out of the March 20 game after less than three minutes, saying he was ill, and an "individual with whom Porter associated and knew to be an NBA bettor" won $1.1 million with an $80,000 parlay proposition bet "wagering that Porter would underperform," the NBA said.

・The league said the payout was frozen due to unusual activity, and it was told about suspicious bets on Porter's performance by "licensed sports betting operators and an organization that monitors legal betting markets."

・The NBA said Porter also used an associate's account to place at least 13 bets on NBA games in the first three months of this year. He didn't play in any of the games, but three bets were "multi-game parlay bets that included one Raptors game, in which Porter bet that the Raptors would lose." The league noted that Porter lost all three bets.

The legendary non-career of JaMarcus Russell continues:

Former No. 1 NFL draft pick JaMarcus Russell was fired as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama, and is facing a lawsuit accusing him of taking a $74,000 check meant as a donation to the school.

"JaMarcus Russell was relieved of his volunteer coaching duties at Williamson High School during the fall of last year," Mobile County Public School officials told WKRG Sports.

A local business owner, Chris Knowles, wrote the $74,000 check, saying Russell approached him about a donation to help the Williamson football team purchase weight room equipment. The school allegedly never received the check, and Russell reportedly deposited it in a credit union and promptly withdrew $55,000 of it.

In addition to being fired as a coach, Russell is also not allowed to be on the school's campus, according to a statement from Mobile County Public School officials. Russell attended an event for the football team this week, but was told he was not welcome.

"Earlier this week, it was reiterated to Mr. Russell that he is not permitted to be around the football program or on school campus," the school district said in a statement to WKRG.

Russell, 38, was a star quarterback at Williamson before going to college at LSU, where he threw for 6,625 yards and 52 touchdowns in three years before turning pro.

Russell was the first pick in the 2007 NFL draft and started 25 games for the Raiders over three seasons. He ended his NFL career with a 52.1% completion rate, 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions and is regarded as perhaps the biggest NFL draft bust.

He earned more than $36.4 million in salary and bonuses during his NFL career.

He had all the tools, but he was lazy. He is perhaps as big a bust as Ryan Leaf.

I agree. They're definitely the two biggest busts ever. And it's a shame because you have to figure it they put in the effort, things would have been at least somewhat different if not entirely different.

Substance abuse seemed to play a role in both of them going off the rails before the train even left the station.

The Cowboys are airing out their dirty laundry for all of us to enjoy:

Micah Parsons’ off-the-field pursuits may not be resonating well with Cowboys teammates.

While appearing on the “All Facts No Brakes” podcast with former Pro Bowl receiver Keyshawn Johnson, Dallas safety Malik Hooker chimed in on Parsons’ podcasting hobby.

“My advice would be for Micah, it would be: Just make sure we’re all right, and being where your feet are,” Hooker said on June 27. “Because if we’re out working, and the run game’s terrible but you’re doing a podcast every week — and you know the run game is terrible — then what are you really caring about? Are you caring about the crowd that’s watching your podcast, or are you caring about the success of our team, and the Super Bowl that we’re trying to reach?”

“Just wish you said this to me but instead on some podcast!” Parsons wrote in a since-deleted tweet, as reported by the The Dallas Morning News. “And you got my number family! And you my locker mate! So you coulda said this any day! And you do realize I shoot the podcast on our off day! Why ain’t we talking about everyone preparations and focus.”

Hooker then offered his own reply, seeming to extinguish the budding flames by calling Parsons his “Little Bro” and saying “His Podcast Isn’t Hurting Nothing.”
