... Training is the stimulus for growth, rest/recovery is when that growth happens. Why would you want to short change yourself on these days.

So this is why I wonder why people have different macros. I thought that growth happened during recovery, including sleep, so I wondered why eat less during recovery. Still, it seems to be a thing so I figured there must be something to it.

Your body doesn't simply flush and reset at midnight, either. Food you ate at last night's dinner are very likely to still be digesting and working it's way through your body the next morning. Track noon to noon, your numbers will be completely different, even though you ate the EXACT same thing. Don't over complicate this.

Just follow simple time tested basics. Eat in a small/moderate calorie surplus, eat enough protein, train hard but smart, and get plenty of rest.

It's really that simple.

I doubt recovery or muscle growth happens at the same rate day after day. I see it more likely to be an ebb and flow scenario. The biggest reason i can see for adjusting calories on non-training days, is when dieting or possibly when maintaining. If a person is not burning say 300 calories training. Then eating 300 less would still leave the same amount for recovery. Or actually a little more as more damage was not accrued, so less calories are needed for recovery. Mostly though i think it is more psychological. As when calories are higher people think they are getting away with something. And not being continuously deprived.

A few extra calories on training days can be as simple as an intra/post workout shake. If it's 50g C and 25g P, there's 300 calories right there.

I do personally like eating less calories on non training days, but still at at least maintenance Cals, to give my digestion a break. I do tend to have more veggies and fats on these days, but that's just what I prefer. There's nothing magic about it.

Whatever, we all know you're sitting at home with your Harry Potter wand trying to cast magic on your already magical diet.
