Someone recently told me that she hates her parents for bringing her into the world. Because she didn't ask to be born, her parents have an absolute obligation to provide for her. Not just the basics, everything, and as such she has no gratitude for what her parents gave her. The world is a terrible place, and as such her parents had no right to bring her into it. This girl is 29. I assumed this must be a diagnosable mental illness, so I googled it. Apparently it's a common feeling, even among adults into their 50s and 60s. I think this kid is batshit crazy. Would any reasonable person think this way?

I agree that the world is shit, and I understand preferring not to have been brought into it... But yet here we are. However to expect that you must be taken care of when you're an adult is batshit.

Sounds like her life at this point hasn't gone as well planned.

As a Father of 4 good young men I can tell you this. With that 20-30 y.o. generation it seems like everything that they accomplished they achieved through their own hard work. Everything that has negatively impacted their life is the fault of others. The parents are part of the others, just closer to the flame.

The world owes her nothing. Her parents owe her until she's 18, not 29. The entitled attitude is getting worse with each generation.
The perspective of wishing you were never born can't exist because there is nothing to compare it to. If you never existed, you have no context by which to measure. It's cavalier bullshit.

I can't say it any better than this right here.

Depression contributes to these feelings. Or perhaps the reversal.

But we all regret something. Marriage relationships that went bad. Or time in prison. We blame someone else because it is easy.

Her parents didn't get a choice on what child they wanted to have either.

She should Get over it or put an end to it. Holding onto a weight like that is too exhausting.

Even being her friend will result in you having to share the load. Get away from her.

You don't need to be able to measure it against anything to know you hate the world and the way you feel living in it... nothing cavalier about it, but if someone has never had these thoughts then they'll never understand or accept that someone else thinks this way 🙄. It's different from being depressed or suicidal, so you can't compare it to that either.

What is bullshit though is expecting ones parents to take care of them for eternity, just because said person hates living in this world.

I was in a really bad place a couple of years ago and was locked up in a mental institution. At that time, i hated my parents for having me. But at no point did i think that they had an obligation to provide everything for me. I was just going through a really hard time and the pain was too much
