Hey John, welcome to the UG.

Tell us more about yourself. What's your training look like? How about your nutrition? You're German, so I'm assuming all you eat is bratwurst, schnitzel, sauerkraut, and hefeweizen. If so, I'm jealous.

hello UG, I'm 48 years old, 160 pounds and 5 feet 11 inches tall.

I hope that this helps. Also, i am a beginner with baby bump biceps. I'm used to being laughed at for it but atleast i'm trying to get in shape.

I'm 49, 199 lbs, and 5' 10"

Been lifting pretty steady for 2 years. Trying to lose weight right now.

Sounds like you are already pretty lean which is a great place to start.

yes, i eat all of those items. I am actually American living in Germany. my Wife is German and i moved here to be with her.

nutrition was crap before August. my current meals are as follows: banana in the morning for energy. whey protein shake 30 minutes before workout. a spoon of honey for quick energy during workout. whey protein shake mixed with soy milk 30 minutes after workout. a can/tin of tuna after workout. a yoghurt after workout. Then rest/nap. nothing until dinner which varies. today was schnitzel with salad and a skim milk.

I love Germany; beautiful country... but also very German 😂 (anyone who has spent significant time in Germany will understand what I mean by "very German"). I currently work for a company in Munich, but I live in the United States.

Welcome to the underground brother. I haven't been able to visit the country in 2 years. You'll have to share some pictures with us occasionally of Germany.

Welcome @johnjohn . Share some pros and cons of the United States vs Germany.
Hi weightlossburn, that it is a tough request. I like Germany much better but it is my opinion. Perhaps you would not like it so much. i can specify a few differences that jump out in my mind.

i am a quiet and more private person so i never liked the hyper socialism of many fellow Americans. like, i have been in a line at a convenient store and strangers just start talking to me. like where are you from and what's your name etc. and i'm just thinking "i am here to buy a milk and a hot sausage and pay for my gas." in Berlin (maybe not all of Germany) i can stand in line at a convenient store and noone says a word to me. I like this privacy. Rarely does anyone bother me in public. I can walk down the street and shop without any interaction whatsoever. I actually like this peacefulness.

Berlin is a big city so busses and trains are everywhere. it is very easy to get anywhere in he city without a car. I like the transportation system. However, it can get very crammed in a bus or subway very quickly. like elbow to elbow crammed. not good when you are standing next to a stinky person.

the health care system is amazing! maybe rich Americans have a similar experience as Germans but middle class and poor Americans get screwed! here is my point: in America, i had a few teeth removed. i couldn't talk and my whole face was numb for most of the day. The pain was intense and i required percocet for help. I had two teeth removed here in Germany and i had minimal pain, no numbness and i could eat and drink within two hours. I have no idea what it is in American novocaine but it is pathetic next to the German stuff. I cannot blieve that i had no pain. I figure that the American pharmaceutics are watering down drugs like beer. cheaper to make for higher/maximum profit. This does not happen in Germany. In fact, i can simply take paracetemol for most pain from minor to major. Amazing. I had to two arthroscopic surgeries on my shoulder and i had very little pain whatsoever. i even carried garbage to the garbage can the same day. I think that i would need percocet in the states and maybe i wouldn't even be able to move my arm very much. Big difference in health care.

we all have to pay a tv fee by law. this law is a bit odd. i don't watch much tv but if you have a tv at all, then you must pay the 150 euro fee. In the states, cable television is a choice not a law. Also, the good side is much less tv commercials and they even tell you when commercials begin. In America you get commercials more than content. I hate watching American tv anymore.

everyone can afford to attend a university here. in fact, they even have many job training programs so there is no reason that you cannot pursue your passion. However, you have to meet educational standards in order to proceed. I think that in America it is possible to be average with a possibility of attaining fame and fortune. Here that is not so possible. Education wise, Germany wins. Success wise (rags to riches) America wins.

Businesses have to by law allow you to seek further training for a better job with more pay in the company. In America, you cannot move up in companies so easily. Here it is a law not a privilege. I find that to be a positive.

American police are over agressive. For eample, i lived in Florida for awhile. One night i wanted to walk to get some exercise. I decided to walk to my mom's workplace. Along the way, a cop spotted me walking along the roadside. He tured on his lights and i guess pulled me over. I had to answer alot of questions like i was a criminal and i was only walking down the street. My first year in Germany, i was photographing ducks at a local pond. I heard a noise approaching me. it was a German poilce officer on a bicycle. I turned around and he said (in German but i translate): "oh, a camera. I thought that you were fishing. My apologies. Have a nice day". In America, i probably would need to show my id and answer 20 questions.

I could tyep alot more but i need to sleep soon.

That is a lot of great information. Thank you. In America you can earn a PHD and never move up in your career. Sorry, you had that experience in Florida. I'm a fan of talking to strangers in the super market, but I know many people that do hate that.

Random question. Is Rammstein still a big deal in Germany?
