My understanding is the deadlifts will strengthen your gluts and hamstrings, and many other muscles, but I mention those because they will support your knee ligaments. Of course you need proper form.

Did your trainer have you squatting?
Yes, he had me squatting and I still do these.

I gotta say that I am finding it difficult to post pictures publicly, even with the blacked out face. CJ and anyone else who would be able to critique, would you be ok with me sending you the pics through a message?

We've seen everything, from mordibly obese to dick skin lean. No worries.

But if you're self conscious about it, I'll give them a look and keep the pics private, but share my thoughts on your current state of progress. I won't be mean, but I will be honest.

Thanks. I tried to, but this just came up. Apparently the image has to be tied to a URL.

So the reason I asked is because squats are much harder on knees than deads. If you can squat, you can dead lift.

Weird. It is on mine.
@CJ IIRC I needed to have made a minimum number of posts before it would let me do that.

Actually now that I think about it, I tried to share some pics via DM and couldn't find the button. I asked @Send0 about it and he said it should be there and he told @mugzy.

Good to know. I read that in the long term that squats can reduce knee pain by strengthening the muscles around the joint which consequently stabilizes it more. Hopefully this is the case.

Two reasons.

1. It's trying to do too much at once, so you're not getting the best training stimulus for anything. It's It's far better to just separate this exercise. Do a normal shoulder press, and do your lateral raises.

2. Arnold presses are a gimmick, Arnold didn't even do them. One day at Golds, he wasn't getting all of the attention from the media, so he decided to do something different to get their attention.... "Hey, what's Arnold doing over there? Let's go check it out!"
Can you provide me with a link to an objective authoritative source to support what you are saying about Arnold presses? I ask because I have seen videos/photos of Arnold doing them, but he does not include them in Book Two (Training Programs) of his The New Modern Bodybuilding Encyclopedia, as best I can tell.

No, but I've heard bodybuilders of that era confirm the story on podcasts. As for its trying to do two things at once, use common sense. The first part of the lift, where the elbows are tucked, is front delts dominant, as that's the muscle that is directly opposing gravity. As one internally rotates their shoulders and wrists as they press, it transfers some of the load to the lateral delts. Pick one, and just do that.

His training is pretty silly, anyway. The books should be taken with a grain of salt, viewed as nostalgia. There's a reason why nobody trains that way anymore, we've all learned better. That's not a knock on him, it's true with everything in life. We build upon the knowledge of prior generations.

In other words, what was posted here about Arnold presses is gossip and as unfounded as the stories about Haitians eating pets and Jewish space lasers?

Here are the basic principles of bodybuilding. Read them, internalize them, then ask yourself how your program measures up, starting with principle #1:

I don't care what you do, but look around at the gym. There's a reason why nobody advanced does Arnold presses. You only see new lifters doing them...right after DB kickbacks

Okay I finally Googled "arnold press" and found it. The only thought I have on it is relevant to this thread, why have a beginner do such fancy stuff when basic compound movements can accomplish everything needed?

When I started , before the world of social media , it was from other folks and books believe it or not.

Unleashing the Wild Physique by Vince Gironda , that was my first book , shit that was outdated by the 80's for at least 20 years but there it was for me to learn and use.

So that's how some folks learn it , Arnold Press , Bradford Press ,, all kinds of outdated shit or stuff no one really needs cus there are way better movements.

The novelty of it. It's a common sales tactic among crappy trainers to get and retain clients, to do something different from the masses.... "Hey, Arnold Schwarzenegger himself did these, you want to look like Arnold, right?"

They'll also have their clients do other nonsense, like Renegade Rows, stability ball training, booty bands, squat presses, etc...

CJ, I created a gmail account and emailed the "scandalous" torso pictures to it. If you might be able to log in to the account and take a look, I would really appreciate it. I will send you a message with the log in info.
