I was just diagnosed with a pinched nerve in my neck. I was already shut down for a month, and it looks like it will be at least another before I can get back in a gym. My entire left side is in constant pain.

I've been walking as much as possible, and I jacked my protein intake through the roof. Is there anything else that would help prevent atrophy? (diet, other light exercise, upping cruise dose, etc.)?

I know muscle will come back once I'm working out again, I just want to do everything possible to mitigate the rate of loss in the meantime.

If you're not able to do what you were doing before, yes, eventually atrophy will occur.

But like you stated, once you return to full capacity, it'll return quickly.

I know you want to do what you can, but be aware if what you're doing is actually delaying the healing process.

I agree with everything you said, but unfortunately I'm guilty of not following it quite often. I'm a bit like the doctor who smokes.

Same. Do as I say, not as I do.

Oh for sure. I'd probably be back already if I'd seen a doctor in the first place instead of trying to work through it.

I'm just starting to feel lazy/listless from lack of physical exertion.

Muscle loss will start in as little as 2 week. If I'm at my peak and take a week off, my gym weights drop by a lot when I'm back in.

Honestly, heal up brother. You don't want to go through pain the rest of your life over a pride issue. The weights will be there if and when you get back.

Best wishes!
