My fav is this one from 1977 Powerlifting World Championships. Paul Jordan chasing Larry Pacifico
19 min in it starts

Jordan first attempt 694lbs - barely gets it. No way he has even 700lbs that day
2nd attempt - jumps up to 755lbs for a record, not even close. Obviously.
3rd attempt jumps up to 761lbs to try to beat Pacifico and blows his knee apart lol.
Loved that video

Reminds me of my first meet minus the injury. Hit my bench opener. Then tried to close the gap with the guy that beat me on squat by taking a big jump and got 2 reds for my ass leaving the bench. He smoked his 2nd which tied my opener so I went full send on my 3rd and bumped it up another 12.5kg. lol. Couldn't even get it off my chest hardly.

Needles to say I didn't win that one. Lol. The dude that beat me went 727.5/363.7/688.9 that day in the 198 class. So he would've beat me anyways by a good 200lbs. The same guy broke a 800lbs squat at the Arnold 4 months after that. He was a freak.

I never watch "fails" vids. Call me superstitious. I've seen to many bad injuries and sustained a few myself to watch someone experience it.

Jfc. 99% most of us should never do 1 rep max unless you are an experienced powerlifter then it's an expected possibility. This guy hurt more than his ego.

We all have done it, but if you can't get at least 3 reps, don't do it. Just ask this guy.

If I remember right he was Russian world champ at that point , that squat was 400kg / 881 lbs

And yeah that was bad from the moment it left the rack.

It takes number one in my book as most gruesome gym disasters.

I once saw a dummy trying to impress using 1200lb on a leg press. One of his knees decided it didn't want to play.
He was a big guy in a little space, but the rack bottomed out or he would have been a pancake.
I saw a growen man cry that day, and as funny as it was, I was still a little grossed out.

Last year at the state meet , dude went for a big dead and used a conventional over under grip ,, started to grind it and you could see him try to use his arms to hoist the bar up ...

Left bicep tendon went TWANG .. when it went the arm buckled n shot out to his side and all the sweat blew off his body at once like when ya shoot a wet deer.

He went right into shock and just stood there looking around holding his arm , some of us jumped up and sat him down in a chair ... made ya feel sick to your stomach

Bicep was all in a knot way up by his delt ,,, just fucking ugly accident.

The guy I mentioned was an ass. The kind of person who would use the squat rack for 30-45 minutes doing barbell curls with 5min breaks between sets, and if someone asked him if they could work in, he would get mad. If he was doing supersets he would tie up 2 or 3 stations until he finished.
I'm usually not a cold hearted bastard, but for him, it was a bad but satisfying joke.
