Back in 1986, when I started body building, I had the good fortune of training in the same gym as these two Pros. Can you name them?
Watching these guys, I learned a lot about training. Talking with them taught me a lot about life.
The second guy, after I won the state title in my weight class said to me...
"Son, you have a good physique and you seem like a smart kid too. Listen to me, don't waste your life trying to be a Pro body builder. You'll never earn a decent living doing that."
That was very hard to hear especially at the age of 21 years old from an honest to goodness pro like this fellow. I wanted to chalk it up to him being "over the hill" and "past his prime" and jealous of me since I was "an up and coming" competitor.
Today, I am very glad I listened to him.
Sometimes, your harshest critics are being honest and give us a truth we don't want to acknowledge.
