Yeah, last night was time for the piggy wiggies to go. They were about 40 lbs in the first pic. and the bigger one on the left was 230 lbs last night on the hoof. Not bad gains in 6 months. 250 lbs is what I shoot for; makes for good bacon and hams but I needed to get them out, cured and smoke and back by Thanksgiving.

There's no such thing as spare parts on a pig. lol

Well they shoot them with a small caliber to stun them and then cut the throat to bleed them out. I did it twice and felt like I was killing a pet.

Acorns is actually a good finisher but they went before I had a good crop. I feed them the "Pig and Sow" mix. 12% protein 50 lbs bags. It's not cheap but they do grow quick that way.

As for the jerky; I need a deer broadside within 20 yards first. lol

Locker i used to take deer to, owner said he had a farmer that had some deal with a local cereal company and got truck loads of the stuff they werent allowed to box and sell to public, so he raised his cows/pigs using it (mixed in i have to assume)

said he eventually turned the guy away unless he stopped using cereal because it made skinning them a real SOB. Guess it made the fat super stickey and was a chore to skin them- but said you never tasted a better piece of beef or pork lol.
