Been having some thoughts on TRT and longevity. I know there’s no real long term studies on this but do you think it’s possible that someone on TRT can live well into their 70s and 80s assuming they live a healthy lifestyle, eat right, do cardio etc? I can’t think of really anyone who’s openly on trt that’s still alive in their 80s or beyond. I understand there’s a line in quantity of live vs quality. Anyone have any thoughts on this/maybe know an old geezer personally who’s on TRT?

I'm curious, how many 80+ year olds are there that you do you know their medical protocols? 😂

Nobody really talks about it at that age. Who knows? I feel like the nursing home is gonna want to take me off to calm me down when I get there lol. I'll be easier for them to manage when I'm depressed and isolative with no sex drive.

I am 64 and started Dr prescribed TRT 25 years ago. I know guys in their early 70's on it and doing well. And as most people my age live to about 84 on the average. And those with my lifestyle on the average live to about 93. Of course, that is not taking into considerations the time i have spent over the normal range., As longevity studies don't ask about such things as the demographic is small for that group. Whether TRT will have the same effects that those that are naturally at high normal ranges have is hoped for but time will tell. I would guess i would do better for the time i am alive. I can't say i have a lot of faith in actually living longer. High HGH levels in animals tend to have shorter life spans from studies i have seen. All in all, it seems things that are used more wear out faster so all the training, hormones that cause the body to grow more or faster may not pay off if longevity is the goal. Time will tell, but that info is a long way off. I just make my choice and see where it ends up.

So long term studies of TRT - over 10 and 20 years - show that it increases bone density by 5-10% at low levels TRT (I think they were using 20mg/daily). But there are several studies you could look up on this.
Anyways bone density is implicated in injury severity, so if you can lower your injury severity and your bones dont break as easily, then you should in theory have a longer lifespan on average. And especially longer healthspan.
So yes thats the reason I take it. Combined with exercise and proper diet rest etc., it should add a few years to the life and make the in between time more enjoyable.
At 51 probably on the young side for geezer. I do know a couple older gentlemen skiers who have been on TRT long term. In their 70s. And they still ski almost everyday. Which is impressive. If thats attributed to TRT to some degree then theres a living example.

I have a friend that is 76 and ski's and is not on TRT. And know other 70-year-olds that do not do TRT yet are more active than most guys way younger than they are. And lifting weights and eating well will increase bone density even in those not on TRT. So will TRT add longevity as compared to those that take care of themselves? While i hope and believe that real TRT should enhance a person life and possibly longevity in a general population. Till there is some decent data to support that i have to say it is just a theory.

I mean we would have to wait several lifetimes to get good placebo-controlled studies on whether or not TRT extends lifespan. The only good studies Ive seen are related to bone density which is a good indicator of health and strength. So I think it would be a safe conclusion that it can at least enhance your healthspan, if not lifespan.

I think the generation at that age group now isn't concerned with trt as much as the people in their 50's now.

We will know in time, but I bet it helps a lot.

Feeling better and younger equals happier and more active, this leads to better health.

Low t guys not doing shit and getting out of control fat vs trt guys living an active lifestyle is how I look at it.

I am not on TRT myself, I've restored my HPTA. But I'm always considering all options.

Some reasons to go on TRT:
- Sometimes its better to live shorter, but to maximize it. (And not live long like a useless plant.)
- If you place a fly between 2 glass plates, so it never flies, it actually lives 10x longer. Just it never flew.
- If you live on calorie restriction all your life, and look like bones, you'll also get the oldest, it's a fact. But did you live?
- If you take a safe job all your life, you won't be rich, but you won't have stress and you'll live the longest. But do you want this?

Some reasons to NOT go on TRT:
- Weak upon disaster: If world war breaks out, or some other global disaster, and you are without the modern world supplying you T , you'll suddenly be a depressed loser at the worst time.
- No way back: There is no way back once you take TRT long, not only did you suppress yourself longer, but also you got older, you must now keep on using it forever.
- Positives/Negatives reverse if you stop: If you ever go off, you'll lose all the positives, such as looks & mental advantages, but the negatives (bad blood, low natural test, etc) will stay, and your looks & mental state will be worse than if you ever started it.
- Time loss: You'll lose some time injecting, and time thinking about it. Also time for blood work, prostate checks, and other checks related to TRT. Even if its not much time each time, but over many years it sums up to a certain amount of lost time. (Maybe you'll also lose time on certain fixes, such as restoring your hairline with a hair transplant, removing gyno, or other beauty/health fixes due to using, etc)

As you have stated, you have no experience with TRT yourself. So if you did you might think different. I find that living a full and fun shorter life is the way younger people think. But as time goes by many/most do what they can to have a longer life even if it is more restrictive.

This is some of the dumbest shit that I've ever seen. I don't think that you even know what TRT even is. 🤣🤣🤣

But yeah I understand you, that you won't live shorter from normal youthful levels of T.

And to maximize a short life, you'd need a gram of T per week at least ;)

This is a good watch, don't let the clickbait title mislead you, they do talk about how safe real trt is. Dr. Attia is pretty awesome.

My wife just read it! I've been following along with his youtube stuff. He talks about a lot of topics I am trying to learn more about (aging and cardiovascular disease in particular).

Same, I've been transitioning into more of a hybryd focus, lots of aerobic work, Zone 2 and Zones 4+5 stuff. I love his long form videos with Inigo San Millan.

I've gotten my resting heart rate down to 51 BPM, trying to get into the 40's.
