Involuntarily holding breath while I'm awake

Seems anxiety and tension can cause pausing in breathing.

I catch myself involuntarily holding my breath while I'm awake I've mentioned it to doctors and they look at me like I'm fucking retarded, they told me it's impossible because breathing's a voluntary act. I tell them it's quite possible because I do it. Does anybody else catch themselves doing it?

I hold my breath when I take a hit off of a joint. Maybe a little too long at times, but I don't worry about it because I know if I pass out, I will start breathing again. Last summer I was smoking some killer weed and lost consciousness. I woke up with my rottweilers licking my face. They love me.
