My bio: 40 yo male, 6'6", 200lbs. I've been working out 3 times per week + sauna & cold plunges, for 3-4 years running now. Best shape of my life. Strict diet - toggling between slow carb & carnivore. Supplementing with daily vitamins, tongkat ali, lecithin, creatine + grass fed whey protein, and krill oil.

Recently I was diagnosed with a hereditary nerve disease called Charcot Marie Tooth / CMT1A, after slow progression of hand and foot muscle atrophy and other symptoms. In my teens and 20s, I always thought it took me 2x the work in the gym for me to see modest gains and keep up with my peers, and now I know why. CMT sucks, but it's not life threatening and doesn't effect life span. It does, however, effect quality of life. Without diving into too much of a CMT rabbit hole, I recently went to a specialist to see if I could get a prescription for Oxandrolone + HCG to help with regenerating nerve myelin and regrow peripheral muscles. (There is legit medical studies that show anabolic steroids affect on CMT patients and has shown to help with other muscle waisting diseases). Not surprising, my neurologist would not prescribe the Ox due to risks associated, and lack of systematic drug trials for use in CMT, but... My doctor did say that he would help me monitor progress & lipids if I chose to get on an Ox regimen. I admitted that I had a source through TRT clinic. He literally said that although he cannot prescribe this, he would consider doing this himself if he had this diseases. So... Here I am, considering an Ox + hcg + TRT regimen. Everything I read tells me Ox has a fairly good safety profile. And if I keep the dosage to 20mg per day, at 3 months max, while checking blood every pre & post cycle, I'm hopeful it will not wreck my LDL and other markers. Once on cycle, I plan to shift my workouts to 5 days per week, 200 min of zone 2 cardio, and continued sauna use.

Questions: will Ox effect mood, mental state, etc.? Should I go through my TRT clinic (Aspire) for the sublingual form of Ox, or should I rely on another source for pill form? If so, any source recs? Is there any other side effects or risks that aren't the obvious ones I read about (cardiovascular, prostate, etc.)?

Apologies in advance for the newbie questions here. Just looking for some assistance or any feedback before I embark on this journey. Thx friends.

Welcome.

Honestly if I had a hereditary nerve disease, I'd be open to trying anything that wouldn't do more damage. So sure, why not.

My experience with var is that yes it is good for my mood and mental state, but that could be different for some. Some dht derivatives are not good for my mood.

If you can get it through your trt clinic, I recommend that route being legal and safe. Anavar is a drug that is commonly faked, and no legit member here is going to give you a source, only people trying to scam you will.

Good luck, I hope you heal up. Maybe look into some peptides too. Not sure but maybe bp 157 or tb500? Do some research.

Welcome to the UG
Agreed.
There are people here that know what they are talking about. I am one of the guys that had to Google your problem. So my prayers go with you my brother best wishes.
Not trying to steer your search. But indeed anavar is hard to get that isn't fake or dbol.
But that doesent mean impossible. Many people here use it all the time and can give you a solid point in the right direction. Not me I'm dbol and superdrol. But use the looking glass for people ( not reps or labs) who swear by var. Hunt them down. In the end I think you will find all the guys who swear by their anavar use the same lab/rep. Do some research on that lad or rep and decide of that.
But from the pharmacy/ chemist/drugstore is always first choice.
Hope i helped.

Welcome to the UG. You have a health issue, a diagnosis, a doctor willing to monitor your health, and a clinic that will provide you pharmacy grade. If it were me, that’s the route I’d go with over anything else.
